Eclipse and Australian Highlights
A classic route designed to encompass the three icons of Australia: Sydney, Uluru and the Barrier Reef. Starting in Palm Cove you’ll have time to unwind and soak up the tropical warmth of North Queensland and witness the eclipse. Flying to Alice Springs you will then drive through the desert to wonderful Uluru – not only a beautiful sight but also a major site of Aboriginal culture. Palm Cove
The village of Palm Cove is situated along the Pacific Coast just 20km north of Cairns. The beautiful palm fringed, sandy beach has won many awards and is a delightful place to wander. Once you've unwound on the beach, the restaurants and small shops along the main street might tempt you to linger and indulge. This relaxing place is a perfect base before the eclipse.
Great Barrier Reef
The Great Barrier Reef is the world’s largest reef system incorporating 900 picturesque tropical islands that stretch over 1600 miles. The reef supports a diversity of life including sea turtles, whales, crocodiles, sharks, stingrays, birds and more than 1500 fish species. Tours to the reef can be booked through one of the many local agencies.
Uluru
It’s not difficult to see why the Aborigines attach spiritual significance to Uluru. At 348m high Uluru is the world’s largest monolith. More impressive than its size, however, is its colour - a glowing red that changes constantly throughout the day.
Sydney
Sydney has one of the most recognisable harbours in the world. It is the oldest and largest settlement in the country with so much to offer, with golden beaches, beautiful parks and a magnificent skyline.
