Trip Overview:

An Australian tour de force, this trip starts in the iconic harbour city of Sydney from where we visit the observatories in New South Wales before heading to Australia’s other great landmark; Uluru. Our time in the Red Centre will also include little visited meteor craters that dot the outback. Travelling north we arrive at Darwin which is the gateway to Kakadu National Park; a wildlife wonderland teeming with mammals, reptiles, birds and insect life.  The tour finishes in Queensland with its wonderful beaches and, of course, the total eclipse.

Palm Cove

The village of Palm Cove is situated along the Pacific Coast just 20km north of Cairns. The beautiful palm fringed, sandy beach has won many awards and is a delightful place to wander. Once you've unwound on the beach, the restaurants and small shops along the main street might tempt you to linger and indulge. This relaxing place is a perfect base before the eclipse.

The Observatories

The newly renamed Australian Astronomical Observatory has been the home to optical astronomy in Australia for more than four decades and has a world-wide reputation for excellence. At Parkes the famous 64-metre movable dish is just one of several antennas receiving radio signals from sources in the distant universe.

The Meteor Craters

Australia’s dry deserts are an ancient landscape which has remained largely unchanged for millions of years. Over the eons impacts from meteorites have created a number of well preserved craters and we’ll have the chance to visit a couple of them on this tour.

Kakadu National Park

There are many reasons to visit this national park, including the variety of landscapes, the wildlife and some of the best preserved aboriginal rock artwork in the country. There are several Aboriginal settlements still in the park which give you an excellent insight into their culture.
